Introduction to DEI – online training
This course is designed to introduce you to the fundamental concepts of diversity, equity, and inclusion (or DEI for short), and equip you with the strategies to contribute to, and build a more inclusive workplace culture.
This course will help you:
- Understand the key concepts of diversity, equity, and inclusion,
- Recognise biases and their impacts on the workplace,
- Identify practical ways to foster an inclusive culture, and,
- Develop an action plan to promote inclusivity in your own team or workplace.

On completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the Key Concepts of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI):
- Define and explain the fundamental principles of DEI.
- Recognise the significance of DEI initiatives in promoting a positive and equitable workplace culture.
- Examine DEI through different perspectives to appreciate its complexity and scope.
- Identify and Address Bias:
- Define unconscious bias and understand its various forms and common examples in workplace interactions.
- Recognise how biases affect decisions, behaviours, and relationships within a professional setting.
- Apply reflective techniques to identify and minimise personal biases.
- Promote an Inclusive Workplace Environment:
- Describe the essential characteristics of an inclusive workplace.
- Apply practical strategies such as active listening, empathy, and encouraging diverse viewpoints to support inclusion.
- Facilitate open discussions and advocate for fair treatment and equal opportunities for all employees.
- Develop the confidence to challenge and address non-inclusive behaviours.
- Support organisational policies and initiatives designed to enhance inclusion.
- Develop and Commit to an Action Plan:
- Formulate a practical plan to apply DEI principles in their teams or organisation.
- Commit to specific actions aimed at advancing inclusion and equity in their workplace.
